A Father’s Lesson

Allan has been a hair client and friend of mine for over 25 years. He has seen my artistic road from the beginning. He saw my beginning in special effects, to the discovery that I can sculpt. He was there when I began sculpting my Egyptian and Italian reliefs.

Allan saw the beginning of all the doll creations. Sculpting Micheal Jackson to Boris Karloff to Vincent Price, So many.
During the course of my artistic journey he showed an interest in my Doll of Micheal Jackson.

He was working at a well known company, Hanna Barbara, in the Marketing department at this time.
During this time Pamela Harris at Sony closed the door after seeing my Doll of Micheal Jackson.

Yes, I showed her my Doll . One hour and then she took my doll away from me and told me she will be right back. She said she was going to show this to someone else in another department. After 20 minutes or so she came back and said no.You are not ready . Then after I had a meeting and Hanna Barbara and they were was interested, She refused to see me again? I had this in my heart with this Hope doll. I showed her and then She refused to see me again.

I almost gave up, But then Allan came in for a haircut with his children. I was scheduled to only cut his son’s hair ,11 years old at the time. His daughter also wanted a haircut like her brother. They were in a rush to see a movie across the way from my salon.

When she looked up at me she was six years old only and I was sorry to tell her I didn’t have time and you are to see a movie today you will not make it if I cut you hair.
Then she replied ok,you will cut my hair later. I said”Yes”, I will cut your hair later.

I realized her response was rather like a young adult. Not typical of a six year old to be ok
with not getting what her brother has. Yes I didn’t hear crying ,instead she looks at me and replied ok ,later.
Allan said yes. I taught her to never take no for an answer. This is about negotiating. about trying later and perhaps this is time. This is never about No! for a answer. This is about trying again. negotiation!

Well this has been a lesson also for me, for I held on to this as well.
I carry this with me to not give up.This is about negotiating, never about No!

I’m here to make sure every child see’s this doll,I can’t give up my dream of every child having a Micheal Jackson doll.
