Hope Letter

Michael Jackson has been instrumental in helping so many children. His love is evidenced in his work which reveals him to be a person capable of discarding preconceptions. Capable of seeing and understanding through the eyes of a child. Capable of the sympathy and great passion that so many people today lack. Books like Women who run with the Wolves and the series books by Dr. Bradshaw both indicate that we must face that child within in order to succeed. We must return to that nature of ours. I cannot imagine a better representative of this ideal than Michael.

In 1901 Cornelia Bonnell opened a mission called “Door of Hope Receiving Home”. This after she was shocked to find young girls dressed in silk and jewels parading down the streets of China. Girls were being displayed in front of hundreds of men in order that they might be sold as concubines, and soon discarded when they were no longer a good investment. Miss Bonnell was appalled and decided to help thesis girls and other similar predicaments. With the help of officials she opened “Door of Hope Receiving Home”. Girls learning skills made dolls in order to support themselves. These dolls helped many children. My own experiences growing up in foster homes  has given me a desire to help others less fortunate. Children of rage and victims of debilitating diseases. My intentions was for this doll of Michael Jackson become “Doll of Hope” A Dahl.

Bay dolls. Action Heroes, or Barbie all occupy up to 3 aisles in most large toy stores and appear to be relatively the same. Celebrity dolls are only created as vague resemblance’s. through the years I have developed a process that makes it possible to create these dolls with extreme level of detail and finesse without increasing the production costs. It would make it possible to make a doll that has the appeal for not only collectors but also to children. it would make it possible to connect both the worlds of investment and play in by creating a much more realistic representation than any doll previously made of Michael. It would give wider market appeal rather than delegate sales to only high priced specialty stores. Even Doll collecting in itself is an industry that is the second largest in the United States preceded only by stamp collecting and followed by coin collecting according to 1994 “Big Black Book” statistics. Enclosed is a picture I saved out of the 89 issue of Vanity fair that featured Michael, his  back to the camera only revealing his reflection in the mirror. Like his image this doll is an abstraction of Michael himself that actually heightens ones realization of Michael’s true self. This image was created by a friend to illustrate idea of how the Song I’m a Big Boy Now” my be represented by this doll. My intentions were not with this song originally. I have been lead by my neighbor Dave Shorey who has recently been asked to play guitar in a remake of the song written by Michael Jackson when he was young. What are the chances of two neighbors – door to door both working on a Michael Jackson project!

Dolls are believed to be infused with their makers. They used as markers of authority and take an instinctual life force that can be both fierce and endearing. A doll can change a person. It can be a token of good. In ancient times it was thought a doll could intercede upon the owners behalf to see the visions of fields in heaven. Dolls are a small and glowing facsimile of original self. They give wisdom within a culture and bring out the inner reason, and inner knowing of the “small being within”. A mother will agree that there is comfort given to the child. Care. Confidence. Intuition. The guiding attitude is beyond the human and mundane. This is a dolls voice. My goal is to make it possible for every child andean to hold this doll. To cherish and care for it for years to come. You can feel this dolls life force up close. A child can be reinforced spiritually and continuously reminded of the unique talents and abilities we all contain. If we just follow our hearts. our voice. That child within. We can make a difference like Michael has through his talents.

Sincerely and Devotedly,
Dahli
